Steps to Becoming “Google-able”

One of the most important traits of the New School Resume is becoming visible with online search engines. Google, the United State’s largest search engine ranks websites based on their number of inbound links. Each link to your website that Google can see increases your chance to beat out other websites for the same search phrase.

Proper names can be a struggle to rank on top because there are so many people on the internet. The key is to start early and develop inbound links. Purchasing “your-name.com” will also increase your chances of winning the race for a Google search of “your-name”.

Using social bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, and now Facebook, your inbound links will grow quickly. Mastering the art of Search Engine Optimization or SEO will take time, but the payoff is limitless.
